Unresolvable mail address

A copy of your message is being returned to you because one or more of
the addresses you specified could not be recognized as addresses that are
understood by, or reachable from, this system.

Typically this means that a UUCP site you are trying to reach does not exist
in the UUCP maps, or that a domain name does not exist in the DNS, and
therefore cannot receive mail.

Please check your addresses for spelling errors, or consult with your local
postmaster or system administrator.

This is an automatic message.

P.S.: In bizarre circumstances you will see the address report below
rewritten as site.dom!user@%s. This happens when your envelope
address looks like user@site.dom, where site.dom is not a valid
      hostname.

I've been trying to configureWarp Connect dialer on my Thinkpad 750C to
connect to my CSlip provider as I'd like to use the Web browser, Webexplorer
from the OS2 IAK. I'm having difficulty because the IPs are dynamic. I'm
using a WINOS2 session right now but Netscape has a few problems eg. title
bars and menus don't stay highlighted in a seamless session (works ok in a
full-screen session though). I've used a friend's setup on PPP and it's much
better than Netscape etc. I'd appreciate any info on how to get Webexplorer
working in conjunction with Trumpet Winsock in a WinOS2 session (if
possible) or configuring the OS2 Connect dialer to connect in an OS2
session.

I've got some info on response files etc. and I've tried writing them but
the dialer always hangs after the Login of my name, it stops after the
password although my password is in the response file.

What sound settings on games such as Doom, Doom2, or Descent, will work on
the thinkpad 750? I foolishly thought I was buying sound support when I
chose the 750 but so far the sound hardware is only good for running the
IBM sound diagnostic routines and the occasional WAV file. Has anyone had

I could use a few 170's (or even 340's if the price is right) in caddies,
to use as backup medium. IBM was selling some 170's off for $65, but they
got snaffled up. Let me know by email if you have an old too-small disk

I'm resubscribing after having been a charter subscriber when it was the
TP750 list, and my ancient, 19th Century 750C was new, and learned
everything there was to know :-) Now I'm back on with two problems:

By mistake (mine, mostly) the IBM warranty folks sent me two replacement
power supplies for the 750. One was a duplicate of the original with a
largish power supply and a thick cable from the PS to the computer.
The other is slightly smaller, with a very thin cable to the computer.
Both work and both's electrical specs are about the same. Naturally,
I have to send one back to IBM. Any advice which one? The heavier
original type seems sturdier, but the light one is handier and it looks
like it has a better strain relief.

A more momentous problem that I just posed on the newsgroups (where
I saw that this list is still active, though it's not just 750 any more):

My newly installed Windows 95 does not support the 512K PCMCIA
non-flash (SRAM?) memory card I had been using to transport files
between my HP 100LX Palmtop and the 750C, although it recognizes
that it's in the slot. Win95 has no problem with the Megahertz 28.8
modem in the adjoining slot.

Microsoft tech support says they don't support the memory card, and
IBM tech support says that I can reinstall their card & socket drivers
but that then I'd change the whole computer back to a 16 bit machine.
I do have a 5MB flash card I use in the Palmtop, but it's been formatted
with Stacker which I don't have on the 750, so haven't tried it. Any
solution?
============

A report on the 750C as it chugs into its third year:

It's been a very good machine and performs as well as when new.
The batteries still give an honest couple of hours.
The power cable opened at the strain relief (operator error?)
The plastic rear door covering the external connectors broke off.
An internal problem that they fixed via 2 way FedEx immediately
  (Service was excellent.)
No problem with the screen or hard drive.
I've updated the BIOS, video, etc from their downloads without problem.

i haven't looked, but it will probably not be as cheap to play musical
caddies
with the 701. the smallest drive they put in them is 340mb (or 385mb?) and,
as
of this week, they were still getting $600+ for them. the 755 cases do *not*

fit in the 701, so, until the price of the 340 drops, you'd have to go third
party to save any money. i'm sure there's someone in this list who will buy
your 172 if it's the enhanced drive (75x compatible).

Greetings !

I am a relatively new subscriber to the list, being the
relatively new keeper of a 701C w 16 mb ram, a 540 mb HD
(CDW was out of the 720's), and a non-functioning ether net
PCMCIA card (see next post).

This was purchased primarily as a travel tool for my wife
who is teaching at a local college. It was not intended as
a desktop replacement.

We like the 701C's size, screen and snappy performance (given
its resources). I found the pointing device surprisingly easy
to get used to. I had used a Dell DX4-75 in the past and am
much happier with the 701. Our screen has 4 dead pixels which
does not please me, but it is not too obtrusive.

The bundled software was a pretty weird bag; I've killed most of
it already. The lack of removable media backup means that most
if not all of this software is useless, as I am apt to trash the
drive from time to time (hey - it happens; what do *you* do?).

The OS installed on the box will be some Windows 3.x variant for
awhile as that is the common one in our work environment at this time.
I may try Solaris or Linux when a spare drive becomes available.
Calling the OS currently on the box 3.11 is deceptive as *I* took that
to mean Windows for Workgroups. This is still giving me fits. IBM
tech support says that it will network, but can't tell me how.

Obviously, one of the first pressing needs is more drive space. The
feeble attempts to push OS/2 (as good as it might be) onto this small
drive were nothing short of stupid ! And the lack of *good*
instructions to get rid of it remind me of IBM in the 5150 days. I
plan to pickup a carrier and wait for a good drive deal to come up.
Just from looking in Computer Shopper ads, it looks like most if not
all of the high capacity 2.5" drives are 19mm thick.

If anyone has a recommendation for a nice leather portfolio for the
bare 701 or a source of 12vdc (automotive) power converters, I'd like
to hear. Email is fine if it is redundant here.

As alluded to in a previous post, I am having difficulties
with connection my 701C to my home ether net (10 Base T).

I purchased a Simple Technology (ST) PCMCIA Ethernet card from
Computer Discount Warehouse (CDW); they said that the card was
compatible with the 701C Thinkpad. (And yes, I do believe in
the tooth fairy...)

First attempt to install did not take even after trying beta
drivers (why did I start to feel slightly sick ?) so I swapped the
card for a new one. Second card also balked. Probably not the
card.

I am coming to the conclusion that the problem is in the OS. When
I ordered the box, the CDW ad said "Windows 3.11" which I read as
"Windows for Workgroups 3.11"; I would have denied the existence of
the former, but it does seem to exist.

IBM Tech Support states (after several longish consults) that 1. W3.11
is not WFW3.11, and 2. "peer-to-peer networking is not supported under
W 3.11, but you can share disk drives and printers"; at this point, I
thanked the nice man and rang off. No help here.

Back to ST. They were unaware of any problems; the 701C was not on
any black list. My tech guy was also unaware of a W3.11 variant.
They are looking into it.

Basically, I want to be able to use the printer and CD player when at
home. Any pointers to the solution appreciated. Email to me and I will
post with the solution (hopefully soon).

You mention you might try Linux in the future. What I did was
get the Linux RedHat 3.0.3 root/boot diskettes (3 disks). On
another Linux box, I modified /etc/service to add the line:

ftp 21/tcp

and added a copy of ncftp (ftp will do) and tar. My PCMCIA
ethernet card was supported by Linux's PCMCIA drivers, so I booted
the install disks, switched to a shell, mounted the hard drive,
tar'ed everything I wanted, and ftp'ed the tar file to another
system.

Maxtor and at least one other company make a 1GB 12mm 2.5" drive.
I haven't heard of anyone trying to use one on their 701 though.

Port makes a nice leather portfolio.

Could anyone kindly send me a copy of the mail if you still have it?

I found the article. It is not from the mailing list, but from
the comp.sys.laptop newsgroup.

I guess it's very helpful to 701 owners, so I repost it to the list. I
hope this is not a waste of bandwidth.
