HD upgrade TP701

hi there,

the recent thread and the latest advertisements quoting
800MB 2,5" 12mm HDs under $300. (e.g. in the latest
Computer Shopper pg. 494: Drive Outlet Center at
1-800-260-5944 the Toshiba 814MB for $239... anything
cheaper, comments?) are really leading me into
temptation... and had me taking apart my 701 to see how
easy it would be.

the built in 360MB drive is, of course, in the IBM-caddy.
i'm not sure if i want to get a new caddy right away,
even if it should be available, so i would have to re-use
the one i have. the caddy's connector is connected to the
actual hard-drive by one of those flexible metal-plated
plastic foils, and apparently a connector to plug into the
drive. however, it appears that the plastic foil around
the drive would interfere with removing this without
at least marginal damage to the drive's wrapper.

could someone who has re-used the IBM-caddy on a non-IBM
drive report on the mechanical side of swapping drives?
is it something you would want to do more than once?
how do you tweak those miniature torx-screws?

desperately running out of space,

axel

p.s.: i'm working on the 701-modem-digest... still taking
      any suggestions...
