You should certainly have done so, but...

XFree86 3.1.2G should be out RSN (I'll send an announcement). It
contains two thinkpad-relevent fixes:

723. Fix problem using non-linear mode with TGUI chips (Alan Hourihane).
722. Turn off PCI burst write by default for TGUI chips.

So Option "tgui_pci_burst_write" should no longer be necessary, for
those who were using it.

So please see if removing Option "linear" works when G comes out.
