I've been running Linux on my 755CE for a long time, and my PCDOS
installation disks can't be found. However, I found a tar file that
seems to contain the image of my DOS partition before I wiped it out.
So I installed it on /dev/hda1, took a lilo.conf from another machine
I have that boots DOS off /dev/hda1 and tried to bot DOS.
Unfortunately, I get a message saying that my disk is not bootable,
and to insert a bootable floppy into the floppy drive. Can anyone
tell me what I'm doing wrong? Here's lilo.conf:
boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
vga=normal
ramdisk=0
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.0.18
root=/dev/hda2
label=linux
read-only
other = /dev/hda1
label = dos
table = /dev/hda
Here's a list of the files in my DOS partition's root directory:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 502 Aug 25 1995 autoexec.bat
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 506 Aug 25 1995 autoexec.mwd

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 123 Aug 25 1995 config.mwd

-r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 37174 Dec 31 1993 ibmdos.com
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4696 Aug 24 1995 lodlin15.txt
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 2048 Aug 24 1995 mwd
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 2048 Aug 25 1995 mwd110-1
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 957493 Aug 25 1995 mwd110-1.exe
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 2048 Aug 25 1995 mwd110-2
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 560185 Aug 25 1995 mwd110-2.exe
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 3158379 Sep 7 1995 tr14.tgz

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 9349 Dec 31 1993 wina20.386
(It looks like I was trying to upgrade the MWAVE drivers when I
took this snapshot.) I created the partition using mkfs.msdos, could
that be the problem? Maybe I should boot DOS from a floppy and run
DOS FDISK? Here's the output of the Linux fdisk "p" command:
Disk /dev/hda: 32 heads, 63 sectors, 785 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 2016 * 512 bytes
Device Boot Begin Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 1 1 51 51376+ 6 DOS 16-bit >=32M
/dev/hda2 641 641 785 146160 83 Linux native
/dev/hda3 138 138 237 100800 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda4 238 238 640 406224 5 Extended
/dev/hda5 238 238 640 406192+ 83 Linux native
I've also tried this with partition 1's bootable flag set, but
the result is the same. (You can maybe tell I'm a DOS neophyte..)
