I have some questions concerning my 760ED.
After receiving my unit last Tuesday, the built in MPEG hardware worked
fine when playing the included CD sampler. However, after installing
Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.01 with ActiveMovie, the CD sampler would not
play the MPEG files. I fiddled around, unchecked all associations with
ActiveMovie, uninstalled it, and reinstalled all of the IBM MPEG and video
features (newest versions), all to no avail. The machine locks when trying
to play the clips.
I called IBM tech support Friday.Their multimedia group handled the
problem. The guy said that this was not the first time he had heard of
this, and that he had previously tried to figure out the problem but he had
no idea how to. He said that ActiveMovie was the culprit, and that
uninstalling it never completely removes it. His two suggestions-1)Call
Microsoft (oh boy), or 2)Reformat and reinstall everything.
Another problem that I am having is with the Mwave modem at work. The modem
works fine with Dial up Networking on normal phone lines with this modem.
However, the lines at work require me to dial 9 to access the outside line.
It is set up to do this, but the modem refuses to dial 9. You can hear the
tone (not the dial tone) thru the speakers, but after a few seconds it
reports that there is no phone line connected. I can use a SimpleJack 33.6
PC Card modem and it instantly dials the 9 and access the outside line. I
have verified that everything is set correctly, so I am not sure what the
problem is.
If anyone could help me with either of these problems I would be grateful.
Besides these nitpicking problems, the machine is great! Sure would be nice
to show off the machines MPEG capabilites again, though!
Thank you-
Eric Giles
