My understanding is that when the cursor starts creeping, remove all
pressure from it and it will recalibrate within a few seconds.  So, by
keeping pressure on it to keep it from moving, you're really making the
problem worse.

Here is something you can try.  Keep constant pressure on the trackpoint
with the cursor moving constantly and slowly across the screen.  The
trackpoint will soon filter out this pressure and the cursor will stop. 
Now, release your pressure and it will creep the other direction until
it recalibrates again.
