The following is a duplicate of a message that I originally sent to the
wrong address. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
When the cursor starts creeping while using the Trackpoint, temporarily
putting the ThinkPad into "Suspend mode", by either closing the lid, or by
pressing Fn + F4 from the keyboard, will cause the cursor to be stable
again when the computer resumes from Suspend mode (after the lid is
re-opened or by pressing Fn on the keyboard). The computer checks the
position of the Trackpoint during the resume from Suspend & recalibrates
the center to that location. (My computer is a 701cs. I do not know if other
ThinkPad model Trackpoints behave identically to the one on this machine.)
If the cursor starts creeping during a session using the modem, etc., I
usually tolerate it -- & keep a steady pressure on the Trackpoint to control
the cursor -- until after logging off, because Suspend mode shuts down the
modem.
Hope this helps.
