I insured my ThinkPad. I bought it (760CD) with cash from my own pocket
and want to protect my investment.

No doubt your situation is different to here in OZ, but this was my
experience: Under the available home owner's contents insurance I would
only receive a pitiful fraction of the cost of the TP if it were stolen
from my home, and even LESS if it were lost or stolen at some other
location. (Not good for a PORTABLE item...) :( Sigh.

I then shopped around and found an insurance company that covers expensive
electronic devices. My insurance policy is an agreed value policy ($13000
aussie dollars). If my ThinkPad is lost or stolen, or even simply damaged
or destroyed accidentally, any where in australia, it will be repaired or
replaced up to the agreed value. For overseas travel, up to a few months,
cover can be extended at no extra charge.

I feel this kind of insurance is excellent. Imagine spending a small
fortune of your hard won cash on a TP and then dropping it! Cash down the
drain! You may as well have taken that cash and gambled it away in a
single night. :)
