Hello ThinkPadders...
I stumbled across the following in a "For Sale" Newsgroup and was wondering
if anyone had any opinion as to (a) Price on the deal and/or (b)
compatibility of this drive with a TP 560.
The way I see it, its almost half what PEP sells their 2.1 GB
do-it-yourself drive for, and this one is true-blue IBM while theirs is a
Toshiba (though I throw myself on the mercy of the list to determine
whether this thing is actually "fully compatible" with the TP 560).
Basically its a Travelstar 4LP. Here it is:
> - IBM 2.1 gig
> - 2.5 -12mm slim
> - Model DTNA-22160
> - Manifacture date JAN 97
> - Fit all IDE notebook that require 12mm slimm
> - Price $450
> We do not accept Credit Card
> Add $20 For Shipping Fedex C.O.D Next day
> $14 Two days
> $7 Prepaid
>
> RMA policy:
> All products is guaranteed against DOA, and warrenteed for one year
> Repair or replace . All shipping fees if occur, is free of charge
I asked some questions and here was his response:
>Yes this drive is new size is 12mm
>As for compatibility with the 560, I suggest to you to call IBM
>
>To verify if 12mm is ok, as for the interface that is no problem
>All thinkpad take Extended IDE..
I did some poking around IBM's web site and came up with some interesting
info, but nothing that *directly* says this drive works with the TP 560--in
fact, this drive is meant to be sold to OEM's to put into their notebooks.
Who knows whether IBM uses it in their own! The statement does say the
Travelstars are made for "laptops, notebooks, and ThinkPads", so I have
reason to be hopeful.
But from what I've seen, it appears to be a good quality drive--but does
it work in the 560?
Here's some URL's for what I've found. All input is appreciated.
