TP360 screen problems

We are having problems with the monochrome LCD display on my wife's ThinkPad
360. The lower half of the screen has evenly spaced vertical black lines
across the entire width of the screen. These appear to be a couple of pixels
wide and take up about 1/4 of the viewing area. When this initially happened
it was possible to correct the problem by opening and closing the screen
hinge a few times but now the problem seems to a become "permanent". I
suspect the cable that runs from the system board to the display but am
looking for HELP!!!!

Questions:
1. Has anyone had similar problems and, if so, what was the solution?
2. Is it worth sending the machine in for repairs? (8 Mb RAM, 170 Mb drive)
3. How much would a repair run if it is worth repairing?
4. Has anyone attempted repairs on their won and, if so, are there any
instructions available?

Thanx for any help anyone can provide. we need this machine.

Cheers,
Jim
