Well, the problem is finally solved. I found out that while Plug 'n Play works
more often then not, this is definitely one case that some "manual" tweaking
was necessary.
Under the Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> Network Adapters, I
checked on my 3Com card and found that it was working properly and did not
conflict with any other devices. But I switched the Interrupt setting from 15
to 9 and switched the address as well. While this modification worked for me,
you may not necessarily have to change both settings, maybe just one.
