I got mine a while ago for about $65 or $70, but the price is just right for that card. W95 drivers are strange,
becuase you need to download a setup program off of IBM's BBS or FTP site, and it updates the FLASH
RAM inside so Windows 95 autodetects it, but then you can't use it with other OSes. In fact, I am connected
to my provider right now with the Home&Away so I can respond to my email, and it seems to work more
reliably than the internal modem (tp701). One question though: How does someone go about getting it to
work in Linux, either Red Hat, Slackware, or my favorite, Debian? I have a CD-ROM with all 3, and will install
it sometime soon, but when I had it one before, I never figured out how to enable the ESS688, and the
PCMCIA.
Also, another thing about the Home&Away card is that the drivers that come with it are DOS/Windows 3.x
only! You need a new revision for OS/2 support, and a seperate program for Win95, as mentioned earlier. I
also noticed that the Novell client included is kind of flaky.
