Re: TP701 Overall Quality and Easyserve

I just wanted to get some opinions: has anyone really noticed or had the problem of having their 701 fall apart,
as is poor case design, defective components, etc? Also, has anyone here had any really BAD instances in
dealing with Easyserve on a 701 in particular? So far, I have my 701 hooked up to a 6 year old PS/2 color
vga, because the backlight broke, and the display portions' case has so little support that it would almost be
better for the machine to have it off, except that the Fn key can be pressed easier when the machine is in
suspend. Also, I recall hearing that someone else on this list had speaker problems with their 701. I had
problems with mine for about a year now, and after even poking at the speaker litterally desperate to hear
something, I decided to take a look at the audio-out jack (built-in, not on multiport), and it turns out that a pin
was loose, so I tried to push it into the jack with a special toolset. Bad news, the connecter came out, not
suprisingly thankfully, because I had the machine in suspend so I could test the speaker every so often.
Good news, the speaker instantly worked! Talk about strange.

Also regarding my problems with Easyserve, what happened is that they think I dropped the machine as an
excuse for the hinges breaking from pushing in the keyboard, and some other assumptions, so they wouldn't
repair the machine under warranty, and I was told some things I would rather not quote here also. When I
recieved the machine 2 days late, it was missing a about 1/4 of the display bezel, and the keyboard shelf
(which covers the keyboard mechanics) was not even attached to the machine, and after I re-attached it, I
realized that the didn't return about 1/5 of it (both ends). I don't know if their techs. are trying to build their
own 701 from bits and pieces, but I was not very happy, and I only get a response from IBM whenever I call,
not when they tell me. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm suprised at their quality of products and
service in this instance, because I have 2 other PS/2s, and 3 XTs, amongst tons of other IBM peripherals,
and have never had any other problems. Thanks for all your help.

Sincerely,
