Oops, my poor memory. In July of 1997 1.4 million VCRs were sold in the US,
and the year to date (30 week) sales were 8.4 million. My guess from that
and the big selling season being the fall and holidays, is that more like
20 million are sold per year. Sales were up from last year 13%.

DVD players sold were 19,416 for July, and 144,451 year to date (30 weeks).

Laser disc player sales were awful, 2,535 and 31,159 respectively for a
-65% drop compared to last year. 100 times as many VCRs sold as laser disc,
wow.

Color TV sales were 1.5, and 10.6 million.
