With standby, the machine is still on, but the processor speed is reduced,
and the LCD shuts off. On suspend, the memory is backed up by battery, and
the machine "sort of" powers down, only resumeable by the Fn key. On the 355
or 360, it should beep every time you suspend or resume from suspend or
hibernation. With hibernation, the machine saves the RAM and Video RAM
to a file on the HD, and powers off. When you power on again, the machine
resumes to where you left off. From what I mentioned (in that order, that is),
you resume the quickest, but conserve the least power. And again, that's in order
of those mentioned.
Hopefully this will give you a better understanding of the differences.
