I have a Thinkpad 701C with A 360M HD. Unfortunatly Linux deserves a little
more than the 100M I've partitianed for it so I'm considering upgrading the
hard drive.
I've seen some reasonably priced 2.5" drives (Specifically Maxtor's 251010
1.0G) and I'm wondering if these can be installed into the caddy.
The connector on the caddy that makes contact with the inside of the TP701
isn't a standard IDE connector. (some of epbrowns helpful posts suggested that
the caddy might be a PCMCIA-IDE adapter.) So I'm wondering if the other end of
the flat Printed Circuit cable (inside the caddy) has an IDE connector that
will work on any 12.5mm IDE hard drive. It's hard to imagine there is any room
in there for a normal IDE connector.
Has anyone successfully upgraded the hard drive? What brands/models work, do
any of them come with caddys? Are blank HD caddys still available for this
machine? (I'd rather not take this one apart.) Has anyone tried the Maxtor
251010 (12.7mm) hard drive?
I appreciate any help you can provide on this subject. Thanks.
