I too have noticed that the internal modem is flaky, and have had problems when
using it with TCP/IP, though not as severe as what you described.  It works fine
for me with the Faxworks from Warp 4.  You might be better off though using a PCMCIA
modem anyways, though some say the modem works just fine.

I assume you can get the manual from IBM; try calling their main number
@ 1-800-426-3333, and they might me able to guide you from there.  Ask for
a publication dept. or something like that.
