re: thinkpad 770

There is only one way to measure a price as ludicrously high, and that
is if no one pays it. Any other measure is some kind of wooly idealistic
thinking, often backed up by zero information about real costs of things.
What's the last time you walked into a store and saw a stack of high end
thinkpads which no one wanted to buy?

Personally, I had to do a LOT of searching to find my 770, they were VERY
hard to get hold of, and the story was the same over and over again,
suppliers had immediately sold all they had.

That being said, the critical thing with buying note books is always to
try things out. You would be surprised how little you can trust other
people's reactions. My brother bought a Micron, but found out that if
he played CD's on it, there was too much static -- he and a whole bunch
of other people took advantage of the 30 day money back guarantee and
returned it (he since bought a Dell which he really likes, but I find
the trackball on it totally unusable).

It is VERY important to try out notebooks. Perhaps you will be lucky and
decide that a less expensive one is the one you prefer best. Unfortunately
that never seems to happen to me!
