Last night I did something I NEVER thought I would do. I spilled a
glass of red wine in the keyboard of my trusty tp750 (affectionately
known as "Mono"). I was able to do an orderly shutdown and
immediately ran about 6 volumes of fresh water throught the keyboard
(for those who keep these statistics, a 750 keyboard holds about 2
wineglasses of liquid). I then pulled all pullables (battery, floppy
drive, memory card, harddisk). Very little water had made it under
the keyboard, but some had. I did my best to dry everything, and left
it overnight. This morning I tried to start it but got an error which
brought up the self test diagnostic. I shutdown and started pulling
some less pullables (rom batteries etc) and did find some additional
moisture. The thinkpad is now sitting at home drying and I will be
seeking therapy to deal with my feelings of guilt.
Questions:
1. What is the likely worst case scenario?
2. Did my test this morning risk further damage to chips?
3. The next step will be to dissemble the entire unit. Tips on
dismantling a tp750 would be very welcome.
Assuming the 750 is done for:
1. Where can I get hardware to install the hard disk on a desktop so I
can retreive my old data?
2. In the $3.5k range, am I better off with a low-end 765 or a higher
end 560?
Thanks for your help.
