It's DEAD, Jim!!!!
Well, the bloom is off the rose with regard to my "new" Pentium 755CD. After
spending a great deal of time wiping all of the previous owner's stuff off the
HD and replacing it with my own (licensed) copies and getting it _just_ the
way I wanted it, it's gone dead!
No response either on battery or AC (not even a charging indication and it's
not the power supply as it works with my other units) and I am loathe to open
the case on a random search. Anyone have any positive thoughts they could send
my way, such as "there's a small fuse inside you can replace in two minutes!".
I wasn't doing anything special with it at the time of death, as a matter of
fact I was editing an E-mail to the list about the fact that I had noticed
that after more than about 1/2 hour of use the bottom of the case was almost
too hot to comfortably rest in your lap. Could this be an indication of
something going _very_ wrong with the unit or was this normal. I have several
other 755s, although no other Pentium ones, and I've noticed that they all tend
to get warm while in use although not to the extent of the one that died.
Any clues from anyone as to how a request for warranty repair would be received
from IBM? While I'm not the original purchaser, the unit is less that 3 years
old so it should still be under warranty.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
James
