IBM doesn't need to, the MWave is actually quite good about not producing protocol violations and even dealing with some of those in other modems, but this would be a bit much as the Lucent end just hangs and there is no for-sure way to get it going again from the other end. For what it's worth the MWave is much better than many other modems with respect to this problem.. Lucent is trying to fix their code though - I've even loaned a modem (a Telebit) which can generate these errors at will - but so far they've yet to get it nailed down. Note well many other vendors' 56k firmware updates are hanging in limbo waiting on this very same thing. I know immense pressure has been applied (by friends of mine that own dozens of PM3s) but so far without any success. Billy Y..
