Well, my stinkpad is a 560 running Debian and 2.0.33 kernel.  One of two
things helped it:  a) Build kernel without floppy support (insmod to use
it) and b) Kernel apm patch that I found out there somewhere.

This all seems to work well in normal operation.  I plugin ethernet and
use it, quit and remove it, and hybernate with Fn-F12.  Suspend works too.
It all goes south when I hit the road and plug the old modem in.  Loading
serial.o seems to kill the apm and no apm works until I re-boot.  Didn't
have that problem on a 760L that I was using.
