Unresolvable mail address

A copy of your message is being returned to you because one or more of
the addresses you specified could not be recognized as addresses that are
understood by, or reachable from, this system.

Typically this means that a UUCP site you are trying to reach does not exist
in the UUCP maps, or that a domain name does not exist in the DNS, and
therefore cannot receive mail.

Please check your addresses for spelling errors, or consult with your local
postmaster or system administrator.

This is an automatic message.

P.S.: In bizarre circumstances you will see the address report below
rewritten as site.dom!user@%s. This happens when your envelope
address looks like user@site.dom, where site.dom is not a valid
      hostname.

I am in the process of trying to find a notebook computer for my mother to
use in her real estate practice. She needs an internal modem to retrieve
listings from an online source. Her company is offering some Zenith Z-notes
at an attractive price (around $1800), but I'm wondering if a 701 might be
better. I would appreciate comments from anyone with experience with this
machine, specifically, is it a good machine for a "mother" who is not into
computers and doesn't want to have to deal with technical problems or
issues. In particular, I have heard that there may be some problems with
the modem on that machine. She will be using either Windows 3.1 or Win95.
Thanks for your help.

I finally got my JetEye InfraRed (Extended Systems 1-800-235-7576) and
after installing TranXit on my desktop, and configuring everything, I
marveled at how the two machines transfer files! They negotiate on their
own and transfer at about 115.2 Kb. Its about a 3 minute meg.
Transfers seem to go faster when the desktop is the host machine and the
TP as the remote.

The JetEye is velcro-ed to the bottom of my monitor, nice and out of the way.

It lists for $135, but can be gotten from one of the resellers, check out
www.extendsys.com.

No if I could only figure out how to get P2P to work....

The size of the 701 is a very convincing factor!

But: don't take the DualScan model. I haven't seen the TFT one yet but
compared to the TFT of the 755CX and even to the mono of the old 720
it's pretty disappointing (the old mono with its 16 gray shades is
much sharper...).

Hello there!
I'm just new to this list, so here's a little intro.

I just recently got a ThinkPad 701C. It's the Dx4/75 with a 540meg drive.
I also got another 8 meg with it, so it has 16 altogether. I'm rather
annoyed that the modem is not approved in my country and is, therefore,
absent.

More or less I'm rather happy with it. It's small, light and ideal as long
as you don't try anything CPU-crunching. :)

I was wondering, however, if any of you have this problem:

It seems that my screen experiences color distortions. Some colors in a
pallette tend to go 'bad' sometimes, rather intermittently. My friend who
has the same machine but with an older version of the BIOS never had this
problem, but after he flashed to 3O, he did. Flashing to 3O, needless to
say, did not correct the problem for me, either.

anyone?

lemme hear ya? how many of you out there? ;)

OK, since we're getting into introductions, hi.

I work for Eastman Kodak, and we have a mobile sales force that is equiped
with Thinkpads. Currently we have 700's, 720's (not many), 750's, 360
CSE's, 755CX's, 755CV's, 760C's, and two 760CD's (and one is my personal
machine). We have several hundred of these different machines out in the
field. I create the master setup for our field machines, and I am also the
'pre-IBM' tech support for these machines. Before our Help Desk calls IBM
service, they usually call me. Since most of our field equipment is
laptops, equipped with only modems, I don't have to deal with docking
stations, 'weird' PCMCIA cards, or any non-standard equipment (CDROM's, GPS
equipment :), which makes that part of my job fairly easy.

My office machines are a 760CD (1.2G HD, 16Meg of Memory, IBM Ethernet and
Adaptec Slim SCSI PCMCIA cards), running both Win3.1, and Windows 95, and a
755CX (540 HD, 16Meg, non-MWave model, Megahertz XJ2288 modem) running the
same. I also have a Valuepoint, but that is not part of this discussion.

As Forrest Gump would say "...and that's all I gotta say about that."

Please keep up the intros. I would like to know who else is on this list
too.

Now, to make another plea. If someone knows who makes an adapter to hook a
thinkpad HD into a desktop (2.5" -> standard IDE), please send me a
manufacturere and a part number. Even vendors (preferrably in the NE US)
would be useful.

Thanks in advance...

i'm going to put linux on a spare hdd to test it on my 755cd. i'm sure it's

anyone know of a source of all or most of the instructions for doing this?
something like the 'thinkpad win95 page,' which worked wonders for me, would

i'll be doing the nt workstation next, so if you've got that too, i'd

Hi everyone,

I've received the Windows NT 4.0 Premium Release (Beta 1) and
it seems that Microsoft has changed the NT driver model so my
old (NT 3.51) SVGA drivers do not work under NT 4.0.

Right now, all it can do is 800x600x16. Does anybody know if
there are new IBM drivers for the 760CD that would be compatible
with NT 4.0? It would be much appreciated, Thanks!

I would like to buy one of these things for my desktop machine at
work and use it to transfer files to my thinkpad 701. However, the
problem is that I'm running Windows NT on my desktop machine
machine and a lot of communication software doesn't work under NT.
For example, Laplink doesn't work under NT (at least over a parallel
cable).

Do these irDa devices require special drivers to operate or are they
simply hardware devices that would work with any program (e.g.
kermit) that talks politely with the serial port under NT??

Currently, to transfer files, I reboot from NT to DOS and run
laplink. This is quite inconvenient as I often have lengthy
optimization calculations running on the NT machine.

I contacted two vendors of these devices trying to get an answer to
this question, but I was unable to penetrate the sales/marketing
barrier. I'd appreciate any information that anybody has.
