I have a ESS688 on my laptop, and it works fine. however, I had some
problems at 1st. Note that it is NOT the same as the sb (but you do answer
Y to the SB question, just some of the further questions you have to
fine tune).
the 688 is NOT a 16 bit chipset, so you should not be answering to that.
you MUST get the DMA & IRQ set correctly. That's the cause of my
initial problems. On my laptop, the DMA or IRQ was not the standard
default. If you have windows working, search the ini files or something
in the windows directory.
also, call the service center for your laptop, and ask them what the
irq, DMA, and address is for the ESS688. be sure to get the values.
guessing will lead to probnlems, and lots of time lost...
