Some models of the 760 and even the 765 already omit the Mwave.
Personally I think mwave is a stupid idea. They should just include
a standard audio chip and a standard modem chip instead of making
users deal with mwave weirdness. (Mwave is worse for Linux users
than Windoze users, but it's a hassle even with Windoze).
Re 56k though, Mwave shouldn't have more of a problem with it than
it already has at lower speeds. 56k takes *less* cpu cycles than
33.6 from what I've heard. This makes sense because the cpu
requirements of a modem come from having to deal with the effects
of the analog interface at each end of the phone line. With 56k,
only one end of the connection is analog; the other end is digital,
so there is less work for the modem to do.
