	This is a thought. I had a problem with a pc card drive not being
configured (not my current Maxtor, but another brand I've forgotten).
Like you, Windows 95 recognized the drive, but I couldn't access it. I
was advised to go into device manager, select Disk Drives, pick the
drive and enter Properties, and select the drive as "removable" and
"Auto Configure on Insert." This improved things using the card
afterwards. Just spitballing, but I hope it helps,
